FIRST TIME: THE BEGINNING

first timeFOREWORD: Ever since Absalom wrote about his first time, I’ve been on the look-out for another first time story. Then this writer narrated his to me, and I just knew I had to convince him to write about it. The story has all the makings of a fatal-desire-esque feel to it, and this here is the first part. Read and enjoy. And oh, some of you may know who the writer is even before getting to the end. 😀

He was my Ellen and I was his Portia. We always found time for each other even in the midst of our crazy schedules on a daily basis. I loved him dearly with every fibre in me. He was my first love, my first sex, and his name was Danny.

Once upon a time in the early 2000s, there was a doe-eyed, optimistic freshman in a university somewhere in Nigeria. This person was me. It was the first semester of 100level and I was so excited to be in the university, but the excitement was short-lived after a few days of attending lectures. The alien and bizarre environment, the unusual faces, the crowd, the noise and the whole chaos of jumping from one lecture hall to another was something I found rather unsettling. I prefer order and sanity, things being done perfectly in a calm manner. And for all the dreams and fantasies I had before I got the admission, my experience wasn’t one of them.

But in the midst of all the chaos, I found something comforting, something that made it all worthwhile. Continue reading

JAMES’ JOURNAL (Episode 39)

Blog_James' Journal

June 13

I read a book while I was in Secondary school. The name was My Family And Other Animals. I remember picking it up from a bed in my granny’s house. The first few and last few pages were torn but I managed to see the potential in it, especially with the title. And I began to read it and I’m so glad I did because it transported me to a world where even the most ordinary of nature was made to seem like a wonder. The author painted a picturesque world that I imagine in chalk pastels or watercolour images. His use of imagery was so fantastic I just needed to close my eyes to actually be where he was talking about and hear the cicadas chirrup or feel the stifling heat or whatever.

It also awakened something in me – my love for learning how animals behave and observing them in their natural habitats. Growing up, I’d always loved animals. Most animals. Even the ones I feared or detested, I still liked to learn about because they were so fascinating. Continue reading

My Rebound Story

HomokissI still remember the first day I met Babangida. It was a sunny day, really hot. If you have ever lived or been to Gwagwalada on a sunny day, then you can appreciate what I am talking about. All my efforts at looking fresh, nice and sexy fell to ruins. I was sweating profusely, the handkerchief in my left pocket was already soaking wet.

Now that I think of it, I’m not sure if it was just the sun doing its evil job, or my nerves totally focused on ruining our first meeting. Thankfully, Babangida had a car. And better still, its air condition was fully functional.

As I stepped into the car, the chilly air felt like heaven. For a full two minutes, I sat down blank. Baba was speaking but I wasn’t listening. I was too busy absorbing the chilliness.

When I finally regained my composure, I quickly apologised for the silence. Baba understood and we drove straight to town. Continue reading

SAM’S RISK

g13Sam fiddled with his phone while he waited for John to come out of the bathroom. Sam was a fashion designer and tailor, and John was a model he made clothes for. His and John’s relationship was mostly business, but since John had gotten a lot of clothes from him, there was a rapport that came when somebody became your ‘customer’.

Normally John would come pick his clothes from his shop at Ikorodu. but he (John) needed to be at an event and couldn’t come around the shop to pick his latest commission. He had asked Sam to come over to his place and drop the clothes. Sam had willingly obliged though it was some distance from his shop, but his transport fare had been promised to be paid back.

Sam was attractive in a non-threatening way. He had lots of hair that he was practically obsessed with keeping nice and trim. His face was a bit rugged, but it suited him. He did however wish he was taller so he could at least try modeling. Continue reading
