Blog_Rantings Of A Random (GAY) NigerianHello guys, not that this is necessary, but all the same, I want to clarify that this journal is not a weekly account of my life. Therefore the things I write about every Wednesday are not things that happen between Wednesdays. Some of my entries are weeks apart because I am constrained by space to write everything as they happen.

I had a terrible week, and by the time Friday came around, I was totally exhausted. We had auditors from the regional office around, looking into the books, and everybody was understandably on the edge. My boss kept snapping at everyone as these men pored over every financial detail. And at a point, I secretly wished I could poison their coffee. So I was more than happy when Friday came and I called it a week and headed home to a cool bath, a good book and some coffee. Continue reading

What They Say…

This is a Facebook update of someone who I have no idea about his sexuality. However, whether he’s gay, bi or straight, that doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that he very boldly updated this, a statement that decries the unfairness of the treatment of the LGBT community. Read below and let us know what you think.

Man+speaks+to+woman+‘They say gays are horrible. They say they should be lynched & their habitation rendered desolate. They wouldn’t bear to touch a gay, talk to gays, give a gay a helping hand. They treat them like lepers, and they are looked upon with such hate and venom not thought possible for anyone to possess. They call them ‘bloody gays’, ‘fucking homos’, ‘disgusting dykes’ and they treat them in a way less of a human. When a gay passes, they crumple up their noses, purse their lips in derision and whisper under their breaths, ‘fucking gay’. Continue reading

‘True Blood’ Actor Quit Show Because Of Gay Content

lead_largeTrue Blood has taken a lot of left turns with its characters, killing them, turning them into vampires, even revealing that they’re faeries!

Well, it turns out at least one cast member wasn’t happy with the direction his character was going — and it was enough for him to quit!

Fans may have noticed that Luke Grimes, the actor who joined Season 6 as James, Jessica’s high-cheekboned, brooding loner boyfriend in the vampire concentration camp, has been replaced for season 7 with hunky Aussie actor Nathan Parsons. Tons of eyebrows were raised last December when reports surfaced that Grimes had left the production—his highest profile role to date—over “creative differences.”

Well it turns out that “creative direction” was out of the closet door. Continue reading

coming-out-of-the-closet-e1346920556773One day in the office, my senior colleague Funmi whispered into my ear: “Are you gay?”

I smiled. “That wouldn’t be your concern.”

I didn’t know what else to say. It was a question that needed a quick answer. I’m not very composed with verbal lines as I am with written ones. It’s the reason I stay away from debates, unless they are online. Online, I can revise what I’ve typed a million times before posting then sit back and watch my perfectness wow everybody. Verbally though, my points are set in my head but as they travel down to my tongue, some mutation occurs and they either come out flat, or unsure or unserious or grammatically awkward. So when Funmi inquired about my sexual orientation, I ended up giving her an answer that was borderline rude.

I have not told a lot of people I’m gay (for the benefit of those without a third eye). The times I’ve been asked about it, I wonder what reply to give. I already made up my mind a long time ago to never say “No.” Feels like self-betrayal. So should I say “Yes”? Or just occupy the broader middle space that encompasses a shrug and a 10-word sentence about why it matters? Continue reading

Hello, guys, this is our very first series, brought to you by a brother whose a very good writer. We shall call him…erm, CeeCee. We’ll be posting episodes of it weekly. Enjoy. 😀

I turned the key in my bedside locker, took off my slippers and swung my feet onto the thin uncomfortable mattress. I tried to take my mind off the stifling heat and noises of at least 50 other boys in various stages of sleep. Some were muttering and snuffling in their sleep, some snored loudly and rhythmically while some grunted like pigs.

It was disgusting!

I hated this boarding school with every fiber of my soul and for the hundredth time that day, I wondered how I was going to survive till the end of the term – three long months! It just seemed like this place was designed with the worst corners of hell in mind.

My mind drifted back to events that occurred several months earlier in happier times before my idyllic existence had been rudely transformed and I had been transplanted to this despicable place. It was time for mid-term break, so I didn’t have to wake up at 6.30am for school. It was about 8am, and I was still twisted amongst my sheets enjoying the pleasure of sleep while overhead the split–unit a/c pumped out cool, filtered air. Mum tapped lightly on the door and walked in. Continue reading

06-effeminate-060912It was a Friday and I was happy. It had been a terrible week at work, with me throwing tantrums a few times from the pressure. I was happy to get home, have a few drinks and hook up with a nice guy (don’t we all?). So after I got home, logged into xxxxx.com (sorry I had to cross that out), I had a new message (clearly Aphrodite was happy with me). I read the message, he dropped a blackberry pin and I went ahead to read his profile. I loved it, the profile picture was hot, I was drooling until I saw…“likes straight acting guys only”. I just sighed, logged out and went into the room to sleep.

I hate the term ‘straight acting’, and I will tell you why. We live in an extremely homophobic society, a society that doesn’t believe in the diversity of humans. A society that regards any sexual relations out of that between a man and a woman as abnormal. Now when we use the term ‘straight acting’, are we endorsing the position that heterosexuality is the right way? And that in order to validate ourselves, do we have to behave in a certain way that is deemed straight acting? Continue reading

HOSTwebtopSo, quite recently, another American athlete, UMass guard Derrick Gordon came out, joining the increasingly courageous sportsmen in the US of A who have refused to hide who they truly are from the face of the society.

These Americans sef, I envy them seriously. To be in such an environment that, while still been hostile, is also tolerant enough to welcome the declaration of independence from the shackles the society has placed on us concerning who and what it is appropriate to be.

Anyway, as me sef am a Nigerian, I don’t have that luxury. But somehow, we have to keep expressing ourselves. Whether it be through the hushed moans you try to stop yourself from making while you and your partner are getting down and sweaty behind closed doors (because sex must be enjoyed, whether 14 years is there or not). Or whether it be through the formation of super-secret, super-exclusive social media groups with timelines where the members can update whatever thoughts they have without any fear of recriminations. Or whether it be through this here forum – Kito Diaries (Don’t you dare laugh at the name 🙂 ), a place where we can tell our stories for all and sundry to read, and still remain incognito and away from prying eyes.

Whichever one it is wont to be, we need to express ourselves. Our desires. Our stories. Our fears. And that is what I hope this blog will mean to you and me. A medium for interaction. As we progress, and by God’s grace, we shall be bringing updates in the form of stories (both fiction and non-fiction) to y’all. I do so hope you will have a fun time catching up on your readings. And perhaps, letting us have your stories to publish for the reading delight of others.

Do spread the word too. Kito Diaries is here, hopefully, to stay. Good morning, my people.

Do please follow us on twitter: @panther_blog and for any submissions, let us have your stories at pantherptb@yahoo.com.

I remain yours faithfully, Pink Panther (So not my real name 😉 )
