Cocktails and Charm from Nairobi with Love

o-WEDDING-TOAST-TIPS-facebookFOREWORD: So we’ve got our first write-up from a Kitodiariesian who’s not Nigerian. He’s from Kenya, and below is his offering. It’s fiction. Read and enjoy.

Max hurriedly bundled the computer on his desk into his duffle bag and picked up the pen that lay on the shared desk in front of him, together with a notepad and the directional print-out he’d sneaked from the printer in the adjacent room, from the open plan work area of FundiCorp, an edgy, new Tech Hub to the West of Nairobi.

He was (almost) late for an interview he had across the city, and this being his very last chance at leaving FundiCorp, the company that had frustrated him for three years, he wasn’t about to let the chance just slip away.

“You seem in an awful hurry… where’s the fire?” Ciku, the boss’ friendly Personal Assistant chimed, as she happened by on her way to the conference room. She had a prim figure, tiny hands, a beautiful mono-print dress on that moulded perfectly her body, and pumps that always seemed to gleam. Despite her varnished looks, she was way older than Max was.

“Oh, hey, Ciku. I didn’t see you there,” Max managed, after zipping up my bag, placing it on my shoulder and straightening his tie. “I’m just very late for a meeting. I don’t know where the time went.”

“That’s nothing new,” she said with a cheeky smile, obviously referring to how often Max had been in to the office a few minutes past the hour. “But you’ll still deliver, I’m certain. All the best, and with the traffic…” She tsk-tsked as she moved on. Continue reading

‘I could meet a guy’: The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson says he’s open to dating men

Josh Hutcherson 01Josh Hutcherson gets to meet good-looking men all the time, so the temptation is certainly there.

The 21-year-old star of The Hunger Games – and gay rights supporter – let it be known that the lines are blurred when it comes to his personal game of love.

Although Josh is leaning on the ‘straight’ side, he prefers to keep his mind wide open and even admits in the November issue of Out Magazine that he’s attracted to the same sex.

‘I would probably list myself as mostly straight,’ Josh begins, adding: ‘Maybe I could say right now I’m 100 percent straight. But who knows? In a fucking year, I could meet a guy and be like, “Whoa, I’m attracted to this person.”‘

In his profession, the likelihood of working with gorgeous girls and guys is a given. Continue reading

HIS COMING OUT STORY (Edition 2)

coming-out-of-the-closet”It’s only normal for you feel aroused.”

”But not when it’s a guy,” I replied.

”Listen, you’ve always liked girls, you can’t all of a sudden feel attracted to boys,” she countered.

This was the conversation that happened between my mum and I when I tried explaining to her that I might be gay. If only she knew, I thought to myself.

I was 14 at this time, and hadn’t realized what I was doing by telling her what I did. But I remember feeling an extreme need to tell my mum the way I felt towards my male friends, something she failed to grasp, or simply chose to deny. I was born into a religious, extended family; I have a brother and sister, but I have also lived with my uncles and aunties and family friends. Yes, my mum was quite the ‘philanthropist’.

Growing up gay, I had often deemed myself ”inadequate” and the ”disappointment” of the family. I love my mum and was always scared of how heartbroken she would feel if she found out her beloved son was gay. Yet it was a burden I couldn’t bear to keep to myself. Due to my religious upbringing, I had labeled myself the ‘ultimate disappointment’, both to God and to man. Growing up wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences. Continue reading

Tyler Perry Opens Up About Stalker Drama

305612047823_261971691985Director/actor Tyler Perry has opened up about the drama involving an alleged stalker, describing the “scary” stand-off at his film studios.

Joshua Sole, 27, was arrested for criminal trespass at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia on 31 October (14) after police were called to the facility to investigate reports he had allegedly disengaged a power line, set off an alarm, and then entered the studio through the ceiling in a bid to meet Perry.

The Alex Cross star, who was at his home in Los Angeles at the time of the incident, has now detailed the drama in a post on Facebook, branding it a “scary situation”.

Perry writes, “I did not know this person at all, because he works in a department that I have no firsthand dealings with… This young man wasn’t fired and didn’t get into it with anyone at the studio. He just decided that he wanted to meet me… After 45 minutes (searching for him) they heard him inside of the sheetrock walls. He had somehow climbed into the drop ceiling and made his way into an empty office. He barricaded himself inside and refused to come out of the office until he met me…

“After he was arrested they searched the small office he had barricaded himself in, and he had left his headshot on the wall with a note to me saying ‘I believe in your leadership.’ I don’t know what he was thinking. But let’s be clear, to do something like this someone has to be mentally disturbed.”

Perry has since filed a lawsuit against Sole for disrupting his work, and asked for an order of protection to keep him away.

Sole was released on $7,000 (£4,375) bail in the hours after his arrest.

Nigerian Human Rights Activist brings Lawsuit after Arrest and Unlawful Detention

Ifeanyi Orazulike, Nigerian activist in the field of human rights and sexual health, who was detained without cause or charge by Nigerian police, is requesting an order of enforcement against two Nigerian Government agencies for violating his constitutional rights. The detention of the activist came on the heels of a Nigerian Court throwing out a case seeking to squash the new Nigerian Anti-Homosexuality law, the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.  The attorney who brought that case is now representing the Orazulike, who was arrested at 11.00 pm on the night of October 22nd at his office in Abuja, while celebrating his birthday together with 10 friends, well wishers and staff members.

Ifeanyi tells the story of the raid and his detention in an Affidavit attached to a motion filed in the Nigerian Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, alleging he was arrested, detained and dehumanized, without charge. The motion was brought on October 24 by attorney Mike Enahoro Ebah, of Enahoro and Associates, based in Abuja, representing Ifeanyi, against The Inspector General of Police (1st Respondent)  and Abuja Environmental Protection Board (2nd Respondent.)

In his affidavit Ifeanyi asserts: Continue reading

Does Everyone Want Sex?

FOREWORD: It turns out there’s being a mistake ongoing here on KD. A new commenter who inadvertently chose his blog pseudonym to be ‘king’ isn’t the ‘king’ we already know here on KD. He’s a different person, for those of you who have been over-familiarizing with him. Lol. My advice to this new ‘king’? Change your pseudonym. The other king appears to be away from KD due to some, uh, unfortunate circumstances. But we wanna know when he returns and not mix up our relations with either of you. 🙂

And now to today’s feature piece.

singles 23I once looked up ‘sexuality’ on Wikipedia. Wikipedia identifies four forms of sexuality: homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality and asexuality. The last one is a pseudo-type class, in that one can be gay and asexual, straight and asexual, or bi and asexual.

I identify myself as a gay asexual or, as I like to call myself, a homo-romantic asexual. This means I can see myself being in a romantic relationship with another guy, but never in a sexual one. I’ve met quite a number of guys who say I’m ‘forming’ or pretending. These guys (and a lot more out there) refuse to believe the established fact that some people (yes, even gay guys) are just not interested in sex. Some other people say I’m too untrusting, or that I’m scared of getting hurt.

A few times in my life, I decided to loosen up a little and try some things. Most guys I’ve met refused to believe me when I say that the farthest I’ve gone with another guy is a blowjob. And during those blowjobs, all I kept thinking was, “How do people enjoy this thing, why can’t I feel anything, how do I tell him this poor guy to stop?” The first time lasted all of ten seconds before I told the guy to stop. The second was about a minute, with a guy I really liked. The third and last time lasted more than five minutes because I thought maybe if I kept at it, I may actually start to enjoy it. Wives And Husbands in ‘How To Get Away With Murder’

tumblr_static_tumblr_static_2gnhr9bsydlwc4ksgs4sgsc4s_1280Okay, there’s really no point to this post. Just sharing a mild movie spoiler; it’s not a shade, not a lecture, no a gibe.

Over the weekend, a good friend of mine and fellow Kitodiariesian blessed me with a hard-drive-full of movies and series. Yes, I felt blessed, especially since I’d finally gotten my hands on the one series I’ve been angling to watch for so long – Shonda Rhimes’ How To Get Away With Murder (aka Murder).

And so far, that woman’s genius is still wowing me. You’d think she’s lost her touch after Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. Anyway, I got to Murder’s Episode 3 (Okay, this is a bit of a spoiler o), and I watched this verbal fight I thought to share with y’all.

First a little background. There’s Annalise Keating, a law professor cum defense attorney, and five of her law students who also sort of interning for her law firm, assisting her in real cases. There’s particularly these two – Connor Walsh and Michaela Pratt, both of who don’t like each other very much. Not like any of the five like each other very much; they’re interns, currying to be the boss’s favourite. Connor is openly gay, and Michaela is engaged to be married to this cute dude, Aiden Walker, who makes an appearance in Episode 3. It turned out Aiden and Connor went to the same boarding school, and Connor, in his usual relentless taunting of Michaela, lets it slip that he and Aiden had had sexual relations way back when. So of course, the engaged young woman was enraged. Continue reading

Man Crush Monday: Tom Daley

tom-daleyIf you don’t know who Tom Daley is, you’ve been hiding under an igloo in the land of Eskimos. He’s that swimmer with a hot bod you want to spank and lips you want to suck on all day. Ok, that’s my personal fantasy. Sorry, Max.

Yup, Tom Daley is our Max’s man crush. And when I asked him why he found the Olympic swimmer appealing, he said two simple things: ‘He’s gay. And he’s hot.’

Dazzal. Lol. Way to pick ‘em, Max. 🙂 Continue reading

JAMES’ JOURNAL (Entry 20)

Blog_KD JournalNovember 8

I watched some episodes of RuPaul’s drag race, and is it weird that I’m absolutely in love with the series? For those of y’all who don’t know what it is about, it’s got these guys who dress in drag, competing to be the next drag supermodel, like RuPaul. I used to think that drag queens were men who wanted to be women or transgender, but on the contrary, most of them still consider themselves essentially male but wear the female clothes and make-up as a costume. It was fabulous seeing the way they transformed from male to female and doing stuff better than many a female. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind dressing in drag one day and just having a good time with my pals… I did after all try on my mum’s shoes when they could still fit my feet. I remember she used to laugh, but now she goes all sour and tells me to learn a sport even though we both know that’s never going to happen.

Anyways… I am constantly reminded about how difficult Nigerians find it to mind their fucking business. It is not by force to talk to everybody, and my classmates that I’ve never so much as said a ‘Hi’ to will go “Why weren’t you in class yesterday?” with this condescending look or “Why do you always draw at the back of your book?” or “Why aren’t you wearing the same clothes as everyone else?” Continue reading
