Bishops Declare Open War On The Pope As Too Soft On Homophobia

Pope Francis Visits SardiniaNone of us needs to be reminded of just how homophobic the U.S. Catholic bishops are. But the bishops clearly feel a refresher is in order for Pope Francis. In what is close to becoming an open revolt, the U.S. bishops are letting the pope know in no uncertain terms that they believe homophobia = Catholicism and that they are more Catholic than the pope.

And the pope is letting them know who’s the boss.

The bishops are gathering in Baltimore for their annual jamboree, and while their ostensible agenda is, in the words of one journalist, “sleep inducing,” the actual agenda is the battle brewing between the bishops and Pope Francis. Following the Vatican synod last month, many of the bishops are fuming that the pope is abandoning the hardcore homophobia that has been their bread and butter. Continue reading

Let’s Discuss…About Homosexuality Being African

Blog_Let's DiscussFrom Dakar to Guinea to Burkina Faso to Nigeria to Kenya and to Uganda, there is a wealth of evidence pointing to the existence of homosexuality in sub-Saharan Africa before so-called Western influence.

1. In traditional, monarchical Zande culture [Central Africa], homosexuality is indigenous. […] Indeed it is very sensible for a man to sleep with boys when women are not available or are taboo.

2. Among the Kaguru of Tanzania, some women practise lesbian activities during female initiation, women taking both the roles of men and of women in demonstrating sexual congress to initiates.

3. Among the Mossi in what is now Burkina Faso, soronés (pages), chosen from among the most beautiful boys aged seven to fifteen, were dressed and had the other attributes (including the role) of women in relation to chiefs.

4. [And] according to Eva Meyerowitz’s fieldwork in the Gold Coast (now Ghana) during the 1940s, “lesbian affairs were virtually universal among unmarried Akan women, sometimes continuing after marriage. Whenever possible, the women purchased extra- large beds to accommodate group sex sessions involving perhaps half-a-dozen women.

The above are just four examples excerpted from Stephen O. Murray’s discourse of the evidence of homosexuality among various cultures in sub-Saharan Africa. Download Free PDF here.

Neil Patrick Harris To Be People Magazine’s First Openly Gay “Sexiest Man Of The Year”?

Neil Patrick Harris 04Neil Patrick Harris is poised to take home People magazine’s title of “Sexiest Man of the Year” prize, NewYork Daily News reports.

People has never had an openly gay ‘Sexiest Man’ before,” one insider said. “It would certainly make news and generate buzz for the magazine. Plus, Neil is going to be hosting the Oscars. He’s in Gone Girl, he was just on Broadway. He’s also happily married with kids. He is having an amazing year.”

While I won’t deny Mr. Harris’ good looks and charm, I couldn’t help but think of other gay guys who might make equally strong contenders for the coveted title. Continue reading

Botswana gay rights group wins landmark case

_78999557_dsc_0373_2A gay and lesbian group in Botswana has won a landmark legal case in the country’s High Court, allowing it to be officially registered.

The judge ruled that the government had acted unconstitutionally in blocking the group, Legabibo.

“I am happy with the judgement – it has sent a message to the government, the entire region and Africa,” the group’s Caine Youngman told the BBC.

Homosexual acts are illegal in Botswana, as in many African countries. The Botswana Penal Code, based on old English law, describes homosexual acts as offences against morality, punishable by up to seven years in prison.

“We are overjoyed at the outcome of the case. Lesbians, gays and bisexuals have long strived to be able to form an organisation which can support them and be their voice on matters that affect them,” said Mr Youngman.

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC), which often handles human rights cases across the region, said the ruling could have bigger implications.

“The judgment emphasises the importance of the rights to freedom of expressions, association and assembly in a democracy,” said SALC’s Anneke Meerkotter in a statement. “Importantly, the judgment emphasises that it is not a crime to be homosexual or attracted to someone of the same sex. The court finding is important not just for activists in Botswana but throughout Africa.”

Of MGM And Hypocrisy In The Gaybourhood

o-REMOVE-WEDDING-RING-facebookFirst of all let me state that this article is not a sub, neither is it shade or an eclipse; it is merely a musing based on my experiences and conversations I have had amongst my circle of friends. I will need some patience from you because it will be a long one.

Very recently, I was at an art exhibition which was a collective for artists based in the Niger Delta area exploring environmental issues. I like art and book related events because, aside from my interest in art and books, the crowd you run into in these kinds of places are usually not high on an opium daze. Anyway so I ran into this girl (let us call her Erica); she is beautiful but not the kind of Beyoncé beauty that  hits you in the face and makes you want her to trip and fall and be less than perfect (yes I am evil like that). No, Erica is very dark skinned, with angular facial features like Grace Jones, and she was sporting a clean-shaved head just like me. We got talking and I discovered she was an abstract painter and that we had a lot of mutual interests, so we became friends instantly.

We did hang out a few times, and what I thought was going to be a real friendship turned into something else one time when she told me she wanted me. I declined and made up an excuse about being involved with someone and all.

And then she asked: “Is it because you are seeing a man?” Continue reading

Actor Jamie Dornan reveals there will be no full-frontal nude scenes in upcoming Fifty Shades Of Grey film

Jamie-Dornan-fifty-shades-of-grey-37357762-1920-1080Fans of hunky Irish actor Jamie Dornan who are hoping to get a look at the complete, um, package, when the big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey hits cinemas are in for a disappointment.

Sitting down for a chat with The Observer about what will undeniably be his breakout movie role, the married father-of-one revealed there will be no full-frontal nude shots of his billionaire character Christian Grey.

‘You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out,’ he explained, adding: ‘You don’t want to make something gratuitous and ugly and graphic. There were contracts in place that said that viewers wouldn’t be seeing my, um…’ he hesitated as he grappled with finding a suitable description.

When the interviewer offered up the word ‘Todger’, the 32-year-old replied: ‘Yeah, my todger.’ Continue reading

Not Just Another Kito Story

PicturesHi.

Came the message on WhatsApp. From a number whose contact I didn’t own.

Na so you dey forget person, abi?

That followed after.

I ignored the chat till I was settled for the day with clients whose projects I was in charge of. I responded later at 2pm with a curt ‘If you were important, I’d have remembered you.’ That was meant to discourage any more response.

It didn’t. He replied with, ‘C’mon, you don’t forget a dick like mine so soon, especially since you didn’t get to take it beyond oral.’

I laughed disdainfully, at this fool, and delayed responding until I got home. And then, I told him to take his hope of a dick which wasn’t memorable in the first place and shove it in a keyhole. I just wasn’t feeling the guy.

Two weeks later, he said hi again. This time, he followed it with. ‘Remember when you sucked me and didn’t lemme fuck you?’  Continue reading

TAKING THE LINDA IKEJI STAND

Add_AdminWhen I was flirting with the idea of opening Kito Diaries, I informed a friend of mine, in order to get his reaction to the impending development, and he sneeringly told me: ‘It will just turn out to be another hook-up site for guys.’

I recoiled from his implication that ultimately, nothing matters to a gathering of LGBT except getting acquainted and the satisfaction of their sexual desires. I told him off for that presumption.

Yesterday, I got his ‘I told you so’ response.

Now, I have absolutely nothing against Kitodiariesians wanting to know one another outside the virtual world of the blog. Heck, I have made one or two friends from here, good people who I didn’t know before the advent of the blog. And nothing pleases me more than the freedom of interaction that thrives in this place.

But please – and I know my next words are going to be very unpopular with a lot of readers – this recent trend of littering the comment thread with blatant overtures such as ‘Hey, are you anywhere near FCT’ is inappropriate. There is a reason I exist as the Admin. There is a reason I keep making my email address available to everyone. If you fancy someone on the blog, kindly email me your interest, and I’ll make contact with this person, get feedback and pass it on to you. Some readers already know this, and have been sending me on these assignments Behind The Scenes, without splashing their interests so publicly on the blog.

I’m kindly asking for this level of thirstiness to stop.

Please. Continue reading
